Elementary school teachers can influence students’ lifelong love of learning. If you want to become the kind of teacher who makes a difference in children’s lives, our Bachelor of Science in Education/Elementary Teacher Education (BSEd/E) can help you achieve your goal.

This bachelor of education degree program is intended for students with no prior teaching experience who want to become elementary school teachers. It encompasses instruction in all educational disciplines, helping you build confidence as a general studies teacher in an elementary classroom setting.

Blending academic theory with relevant coursework, field experiences and student teaching, the elementary education degree curriculum is designed to align with national standards set by the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) and includes all the essential elements required to help prepare you for a career in teaching.

What you'll learn

Professional licensure in Iowa

A student seeking an Iowa educator license is advised that successful completion of this institution’s program(s) of educator preparation does not qualify the student for initial educator licensure by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. A candidate seeking licensure in the State of Iowa must first be licensed/certified as an educator in the state in which preparation was completed. For Iowa students enrolled online, this will be Arizona. This institution shall assist a candidate in: 1) contacting the appropriate licensing board in Arizona and 2) in understanding the requirements of the appropriate licensing board prior to the candidate’s completion of this institution’s program(s) of educator preparation. A candidate seeking subsequent licensure from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners must contact that Board (515.281.5849; http://www.boee.iowa.gov/) for licensure requirements in Iowa.

Certification in Alabama

State authorization to provide a program related to the preparation of teachers or other P-12 school/system personnel does not indicate eligibility for an Alabama certificate. Applicants for an Alabama certificate based on reciprocity must meet Alabama’s test requirements and submit a valid, renewable professional educator certificate/license issued by another state at the degree level, grade level, and in the teaching field or area of instructional support for which an Alabama certificate is sought and for which Alabama issues a certificate. Applicants for Alabama certification in an area of administration must also document at least three years of full-time employment as an administrator in a P-12 school system(s). http://www.alsde.edu
